About

Florida Writers Association is a nonprofit 501(c)6 serving writers of all genres and all levels. FWA provides a professional atmosphere, a vast networking system, and valuable tools to succeed in today's publishing industry.

Our motto, “Writers Helping Writers,” is demonstrated daily by our volunteers across the state of Florida and beyond.

History

Florida Writers Association First 10 YearlsFrom an inauspicious beginning in 2001 around a kitchen table, a few friends took the concept of “Writers Helping Writers,” and then, as Doug Houck, editor of Florida Writers Association’s first history book writes, “…plunged boldly into the formidable task of organizing.” Within ten years, the Florida Writers Association had become a professional organization with more than 1,000 members from every corner of the state and beyond.

As Dr. Houck put it, “The Florida Writers Association has become a fine tapestry of activity, service, and voices.” FWA continues to grow and encompasses some fifty chapters, two writing competitions, annual anthologies, a renowned annual writers conference, a program for youth writers, and more.
