Welcome to the NextGen Writers Experience, an event filled with workshops and presentations designed exclusively for the next generation of writers!

8:30 AM – 8:50 AM
You Are The Next Generation – The FWAY Team
In this introductory session, your program leaders will teach you how to make the best of the Florida Writers Association Youth (FWAY) program’s benefits, such as our School-based Writing Clubs and the FWAY Scholarship Award. You’ll network with other young lovers of writing, and have your voice heard about how the Florida Writers Association Youth program can help you.

9:00 AM – 9:45 AM
Writing From Inside Your Characters – Janice Hardy
Characters are at the heart of every story, and the better we know them, the better our stories can be. In this workshop, writers will learn about point of view and how to see the story from a character’s eyes. Includes interactive writing games and group participation.

10:00 AM – 10:45 AM
The Different Paths to Publishing – Christina Farley
Print books, audiobooks, serialized fiction, oh my! In this interactive workshop, you’ll discover how to branch out in your writing to diversify your income and reach new readers. You will gain tips on creating a serialized story, insights on developing reader interaction, and ideas of how to reach readers by thinking outside the box. Attendees will come away from this workshop with a plan of action for their writing journey. Take this opportunity to explore the different paths of publishing opportunities available for you and embark on a whole new adventure in your writing.

11:00 AM – 11:45 AM TBA

2:15 PM – 3:15 PM
Storytelling in the Time of Robots – Noel Zamot
In this session, Award-winning author Noel Zamot will share thoughts on Artificial Intelligence, and share ideas on how authors can use the latest tools to make writing more accessible, fun, and dare we say, better. The session will cover a very basic introduction to AI, its importance, what tools are available, and how writers can learn to surf the waves of progress instead of drowning between swells. The session uses humor and vignettes to highlight the bewildering speed at which these history-making tools expand. The presenter will combine his experience as an author with his experiences testing autonomous systems for the military — the precursor of AI.

3:30 PM – 4:00 PM
As we come to a close, we’ll finish handing out door prizes from the day, as well as the Honor School Banner to those who have established writing clubs with us.

Schedule is subject to change without notice.
